The fourth leg of the ASEAN NewsMaker Project was held in Phnom Penh, Cambodia from 30 to 31 July 2009. The opening addresses were given by His Excellency Mr. Has Sam Ath (Deputy Director-General of General Department of Administration and Finance), His Excellency Mr. Him Suong (Deputy Director-General of TVK and Chairman of ASEAN COCI for Cambodia) and His Excellency Mr. Thach Phen, Secretary of State, Ministry of Information.

A team from Yu Neng Primary School has emerged as the grand winner at the inaugural ASEAN NewsMaker Competition Singapore. Comprising two primary five students Nur Tasleem Banu and Debbie May Santa Maria, and led by their teacher Syed Ali Omar, the team impressed the judges with their five-minute video news clip featuring preparations work for the upcoming Youth Olympics 2010. They beat 41 other entries from 28 primary and secondary schools to clinch the top prize.

The Asean News Maker Project in Brunei Darussalam, the third stop for the project after Singapore and Malaysia, began on 29 June 2009 at Seameo Voctech Gadong. During the project, some 40 students and teachers from 20 schools used the NewsMaker software to produce video clips on topics that range from their school life to the history of their country and to their favourite local food, promoting their country’s culture and lifestyle to the other ASEAN member countries. |

Following its official launch in Singapore on 2 June 2009, the ASEAN NewsMaker Project made its second stop in Malaysia on 11 June 2009. Over two days, about 30 students (aged between nine and sixteen) and 20 teachers from two schools - SK Putrajaya Presint 8-1 and Kolej Islam Sultan Alam Shah, Klang - learnt the NewsMaker software and then used it to produce the informational videos that showcase their country's history, culture and lifestyle. |
