The ASEAN NewsMaker Project in Malaysia
Tuesday, 16 June 2009 01:00
Following its official launch in Singapore on 2 June 2009, the ASEAN NewsMaker Project made its second stop in Malaysia on 11 June 2009. Over two days, about 30 students (aged between nine and sixteen) and 20 teachers from two schools - SK Putrajaya Presint 8-1 and Kolej Islam Sultan Alam Shah, Klang - learnt the NewsMaker software and then used it to produce the informational videos that showcase their country's history, culture and lifestyle.

Three trainers from EyePower Games Private Limited, trained the participants on storyboarding, the use of the NewsMaker software and video-making techniques. The participants then worked in small groups with at least one teacher in each group, to produce their videos. They gathered information and multimedia materials from internet, wrote their scripts and then recorded their readings. At the end of the event, a total of 10 videos were produced.

A mini-competition was then held to select the top three teams by a panel of three judges that consisted of Mr. Kok Che Beng (Deputy Under-Secretary of International Division from the Ministry of Education), Puan Aananthi (Principal Assistant Secretary (Information Program) from the Ministry of Information, Communication and Culture) and Puan Rohana (Assistant Director of Education Technology Division from the Ministry of Education). The winners won prizes that were sponsored by EyePower Games, Creative Technology and Media Development Authority of Singapore. All the produced videos will eventually be uploaded to the ASEAN Media Portal and the NewsMaker.TV portal where they can be easily shared within the ASEAN community to promote the spirit of ASEAN.

Riding on the success of the ASEAN NewsMaker Project in Malaysia, EyePower Games will continue to facilitate collaboration between schools in Malaysia and Singapore, to further enhance the close relationship between the two countries.
